After each six months, I will reassess my plans and decide whether to continue for another six months. I have decided to continue publishing the newsletter for periods of six months. This issue will therefore be considered the first issue of the second year. The first issue was published in late May, 1983. The first year was completed with the last issue, No. I hope that the newsletter will evolve into a trailblazing publication which will contribute to winning greater public recognition for the important role which we Japanese technical translators have to play in the area of Japanese scientific and technical information, which is becoming increasing important in the world today. It is now going into its second year and has more than 150 readers on three continents. It is a completely grassroots endeavor with no subsidies or support except that given by its readers. This is, probably, the only newsletter published anywhere in the world by and for our far-flung and obscure community of Japanese technical translators.
